Overview
Effective coaching skills are essential for modern school leadership, enabling principals and vice-principals to develop their teams while managing performance through meaningful Professional Review and Staff Development processes.
This two-day programme equips senior leaders with the tools and techniques needed to coach effectively and conduct constructive performance conversations that drive improvement and growth.
What You'll learn
Through practical workshops and guided practice, participants will develop confidence in coaching conversations and learn to set meaningful PRSD targets that support both individual development and school improvement.
The programme provides a clear framework for choosing appropriate coaching approaches and delivering feedback that motivates and develops staff.
Indicative Content
Day 1
- Setting the scene. The leadership toolkit including the coaching mindset
- The coaching, mentoring, managing, continuum
- Feedback as a springboard for coaching conversations
- Understanding the Jo-Hari window
- Raising awareness of Eric Berne’s PAC Model (parent, adult & child egos and the
need for a return to adult conversations) - Core coaching skills explained and demonstrated
Day 2
- Review of content and lessons learned
- Guest input and insights from the business environment – introducing coaching models including The GROW Model.
- The GROW model and PRSD objectives
- Engaging with school scenarios
- Coaching practice including feedback and observations
- Acton planning and agreed follow-up. This will include an online check-in post event having given time for application and practice
A complimentary copy of core coaching reference book, Coaching For Performance by Sir John Whitmore will be provided for all participants.

Please note:
- The sessions will formally begin at 9.30am each day. Tea/coffee will be available from 9.00am and lunch will be provided at 12.30pm.
- A notebook will be provided for the course where you can record your own thoughts/notes
